Ice Climbing on the Pitztal Glacier, Tyrol
Glacier ice caves: Ice climb all year round in Tyrol!
For ice climbers, this is an ice El Dorado in the Alps – in autumn, winter, spring and summer!
The semicircular glacier ice cave, at 2.700 m, offers strong overhanging and vertical dropouts as well as easier routes on the rim area. The seracs in front offer difficulty levels for any skill level.
Nor do you need to tackle a difficult and energy-sapping climb – you can comfortably reach the ice climbing area on the Tyrolean Pitztal glacier via the Gletscherexpress. From there the seracs are reachable within a few minutes, heading in the direction of the Mittelbergbahn.
Additional information regarding ice climbing courses in the Pitztal glacier ice caves and other ice climbing routes and waterfalls can be found at:
For your advice: Due to glacier movements, the glacier ice and glacier ice caves at the Pitztal glacier are subject to constant changes. We point out, that the pictures above were taken in the year 2004. Therefore, we cannot guarantee the existence of the glacier caves in this dimension.
